Matrimony
"The Sacrament of Matrimony is a covenant, which is more than a contract. Covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God. The celebration of marriage is also a liturgical act, appropriately held in a public liturgy at church. Catholics are urged to celebrate their marriage within the Eucharistic Liturgy."
- United States Catholic Catechism for Adults p. 281
Marriage for Catholics is usually celebrated in the home church of the bride or groom. A period of preparation is required. Auckland Diocese runs a number of Engaged Couples' courses during the years. Find a brochure in the church foyer for details. After this you will be doing the Liturgical planning with the priest who will be officiating. Contact Father John at (09) 534 8710. You will need a copy of your Baptism certificate less that 6 months old and of your Confirmation. If your fiance is a Christian, they will need the same.
Please give the priest plenty of notice of your wedding. This applies especially if there is a previous marriage that has to be annulled. Also if one of the parties comes from another country or if the wedding is to be held in a country other than New Zealand.
